What is T.E.D. all about?
Talk, Eat, Drink (T.E.D.) in East Lindsey is a six year project funded by Big Lottery Fund. The project is aimed at older people — which for the purpose of this project is the over 50s!
In the last 18 months we have been working and consulting with a cross section of older people in East Lindsey to find out what matters to them, how they feel about getting older and what they would like to see happen and be available in their area. Nearly everyone we spoke to said the opportunity to meet up and socialise with good food and company was top of their wish list. And this is how the project title of T.E.D. Talk, Eat, Drink came about!
T.E.D. is aiming to achieve a number of things, such as helping people over 50 to feel less isolated and more a part of their community. It will also help older people to develop new skills and feel valued for their contributions, ultimately will help them to feel more positive about their future.
All in all there is a way for virtually everyone to get involved, from sharing a cup of tea and a bun with us to supporting isolated individuals to feel a part of their community once again. All we need now is to hear from you!
Over the next 6 years, T.E.D. will be guided by older local residents to commission £1 million of new services to support community groups and strengthen social connections. Older people will also be offered the opportunity to develop new skills and be recognised for their contribution.
Three area co-ordinators are set to join the team in July. These roles will be divided geographically, focusing on the towns and surrounding areas of Louth, Mablethorpe, Alford and Skegness. They will be recruiting and training T.E.D. friends to visit people in their homes or community and help them to establish links to groups and social networks.
